Illustrations by APAK

These amazing illustrations are by husdband and wife team Aaron Piland and Ayumi Kajikawa Piland, otherwise known as APAK. They are known in particular for creating rich and colorful gouache/acrylic paintings on wood featuring the utopian lives and adventures of curious little beings living in lush fantastic environments surrounded by friendly little animals, the landscapes are familiar yet surreal, hinting at a fantastic narrative while suggesting truths about the real world at the same time.

Zenvironments

Zachariah Johnsen is an illustrator, fine artist, graphic designer and art director currently living in Portland, OR in the United States. His concentration is pen, ink, watercolor, and mixed media works on paper. His medium of choice is the micron pen and he uses them exhaustively to describe a world of ghouls, monsters, and misfits – the shady characters in everyday life, but just hidden from normal view. Zach focuses on the more ignored side of life – on the sides of people and places that visitors rarely see. In Zach’s world, most of the people have obvious human/animal hybrids that can’t be hidden. The corrupt politican is a hideous beast wielding an ax and smoking a cigar. The hollywood actress is a washed-up, half rat w/ open sores surrounded by a mob of rabid birds. The family portrait is a gaggle of jellydrop characters and mutated fish creatures.

Zach has lent this fantastic world and his unique style of frenetic pen lines and loose, splashy water-based media to a number of surfaces and media across the industries.

Renee Nault

Renee Nault grew up near the ocean and was influenced by the wieghtlessness and bright colours of underwater landscapes. She later connected these ideas with the "floating world" of Japanese Ukiyo-e prints which interested her with their repeating patterns and shapes. To this she brings a very personal edge, a cryptic symbolism and a dark sense of humor.

Misprinted Type

"Misprinted Type is online since 1998. It is my playground! It started at first as a way to simple distribute the fonts I was creating back then. Later on I decided to also put some collages and drawings... Today Misprinted Type is where I put my ideas together, either in the form of a simple text, a collage, a drawing or a typeface. Everything you see here is my personal works and projects, there is no client, no brief, nothing... Call it design, illustration, art or a waste of time, for me its a theraphy, a hobby and what makes me happy." - Misprinted Type
